On our last night in Edinburgh, we wanted to have a nice, romantic dinner. Fortunately, I casually mentioned this to Natalia, a staff member at our hotel. She recommended Outsiders, as she had enjoyed their meals herself. We’re so glad we took her advice! The restaurant had a beautiful view, and our meal was fantastic—we started with mussels as an appetizer and had lobster and steak for dinner. Everything was so delicious that we made sure to stop by the front desk to thank Natalia personally.

Such a gem! Great location and a super view of the castle if you get a good seat. Beautiful light on a sunny day. Food is great, wine list is fun and extensive. Really recommend. Also very affordable for a nice lunch out.

We came here for lunch in February and all the dishes were amazing and very reasonably priced. We ordered 6 dishes for 4 people... as we were very hungry and to be honest it worked out well instead of ordering starters! We had steak frites, venison, fish stew, chowder and mussels.

Me and my partner (now husband) got eloped at The Edinburgh Registry office with our two best friends. Our wedding photographer (Lou Rob) who is brilliant (not picture shown) recommended this place. It was absolutely amazing, beautiful food, beautiful view of the castle. All the staff were lovely. Made our day extra special... Also the price, incredibly reasonable. When we are next back in Edinburgh, we will definitely come back. Thanks again, for your 5 star service and food on our special day. An absolute gem. Thank you.

Our friend found this recommendation on tiktok and I'm so happy she did. There wasn't even a sign outside that I noticed, but this place was amazing. So affordable, amazing dishes and ingredients. This was one of the best meals I ate in Edinburgh. And it had great calm vibes, and a nice view of the city streets. Definitely recommend.

Recommended by a friend who is a local, The Outsider did not disappoint. The space is lovely, inviting, and beautiful; the staff kind, respectful, and knowledgeable; the food fantastic. We had pan seared Scottish trout, venison, wine, and baked plums with amaretti crumble and vanilla ice cream. All was incredibly tasty, well-portioned, satisfying, and fresh. One of the finest meals we had in Edinburgh. Absolutely recommend, we wl be back!

There are very few places in Edinburgh that I have found to have exceptional food, service, and value. For the incredible quality of the food the price point is more than reasonable - especially considering the location and views. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We will be back again soon. Either I’ll be back for a special occasion or come with resume in hand to apply to work in their phenomenal kitchen.

Came here twice, once for dinner alone and once for lunch with my friend. Really great and creative menu. Highly recommend. The OG recommendation came from our hotel front desk and I see why! Great view of the castle too. Def recommend the mussels and everything pictured. Had to look up what those mounted things were... they are heaters!
